QUOTE:
The JREF just gave an intern the $5000 scolarship as a surprise. She had not even applied for it.
James Randi was impressed with her during her internship duties and rewarded her the scholarship near the end of her internship.

The guidelines for the scholarship indicated an application and review process were necesary to be eligible for the scholarship. James Randi felt he could give it to anyone he pleased. The guidelines were then changed to reflect this.

Members of the forum were surprised to hear about this gift because the JREF has been known to be so short of money in the past. Linda explained that TAM had been such a success because of the large donation given by either Johnny Carson or a foundation that donates money for Johnny Carson.

The scholarship gift was revealed by a member of the forum who was an ex-boyfriend of the intern. (He did not reveal her name, she came forward and identified herself.) His reveal took place in the 400 page thread that resulted from Hal's announcement to no longer house threads on JREF that were not "on mission," particularly the Entertainment forum which houses the Community sub-forum.
His reveal inflamed the intern's friends on the forum and as a result a lot of tension was added to an already volatile situation.

Side issues erupted that IMO, had no real bearing on the scandal. Those would include what the intern did with the award and what her previous occupation was and speculations that she did not have a financial need. Her internship was a "gift" from Penn Jillette, the intern's recent boyfriend, which spawned accusations of nepotism.

QUOTE:

The JREF laid out very clear guidelines for academic awards and pity was not one of them. If Hal and Linda really felt so sorry for her, they were free to give her money out of their own pocket, like I did. Instead they wrote her a check from the foundation, which is donor supported.

So, now I ask again. What should we do now? What is your point?

To add to my previous post. They were guidelines, which is something different from rules or requirements. In other words, the review process was not required. So again, Latinrijal, why should any of us care? Why?

And now latinijral is making posts absent any of his own content, which address none of the questions posed to him, and include incorrect assertions on the part of people who aren't SFN members. Brilliant.

Ok, ok, I confess! I've been laundering the money from the JREF drug and prostitution ring for years! Everything latinijral says is all too true; the JREF is a front for much bigger things than just spitting on Geller and his ilk!

The clever fellow has found us out!

All of these 'scholarships,' along with all of that 'skeptical' crap, were and are merely smoke & mirrors to fool the feds and make the operation look legal. In reality it was all money paid up front for recruiting mules to smuggle cocaine supplied by the Falklands Cartel, and to procure grade-schoolers for the pedophilia market. Moefaux has been exchanging doses of the clap for money since she was 13.

And now, the we of the JREF must disband and go to places that have no extradition treaties with the U.S., where we will all retire and live in grand style with our Swiss bank accounts. But the vast profits could have carried on for so much longer had not latinijral blown the whistle on us!

DAMN YOU, LATINIJRAL!

Now, I've got a plane to catch....

No they don't. The skeptic society doesn't care one bit, since this is just a JREF internal affair, nothing to do with the validity of skepticism or the validity of earlier reports published by Randi or the JREF.

JREF donators probably don't care one bit either, since this is something that happened in days gone by, and the requirements for grants were clarified due to the criticism. So the donators know of the procedures already.

Now I ask again. Why should anyone of us care?

And to add to that. What is this 'new skepticism' of yours? And why should I embrace it?

latinijral - have you applied for a scholarship?

This whole thing sounds like sour grapes to me. I mean if I had applied and been turned down and then I heard that a stripper (true or not) got one simply out of pity then I would be very pissed off about it. Thus this might explain why you care, but does not explain why we should. Also this asumption is absolutely true, because as far as I know you have not denied it...

I think I'm going to make a donation to JREF.

How does one go about doing that?

Of course, I'll do that right after I've made donations to SFN. Unfortunately, I don't have a pay-pal account, so I need to figure out some other way.
