I don't know,...perhaps this piece should go in the humor forum or a new one like pathetically moronic people forum.

Florida town casts out Satan
January 29, 2002 Posted: 2:15 PM EST (1915 GMT)

INGLIS, Florida (CNN) -- If he's thinking of visiting Florida's west coast, Satan might want to steer clear of Inglis.
The mayor of this small fishing village in Florida has declared the Prince of Darkness persona non grata -- in essence, telling him to go to the devil.
"Satan, ruler of darkness, giver of evil, destroyer of what is good and just, is not now, nor ever again will be, a part of this town of Inglis," Mayor Carolyn Risher says in a proclamation, which was issued on official town stationery.
Risher said the events of September 11 inspired her to pursue the proclamation, which the Town Commission supports.
"It gave me the inspiration that these people need to be ready if something like this was to happen to the town of Inglis. We need to be ready to meet our maker," she said Tuesday on CNN's "American Morning."
She said there are people in Inglis who needed to repent.
"If our churches band together and pray, our nation and our town can be a godly nation and a godly town," she said.
The American Civil Liberties Union says the proclamation clearly violates the separation of church and state.
"This is the most extreme intrusion into religion by a public official that I have ever seen in my 27 years as a director of the ACLU," said Howard Simon, executive director of the ACLU of Florida.
But the town's attorney says that even though the proclamation is on town letterhead, it's not an official municipal statement.
Whatever the case, many residents who attended a town meeting Monday voiced support for the proclamation.
"Because we refused to stand up for God, we have let Satan take over," one woman said.
But some residents expressed reservations about the proclamation.
"I just think that when she put it on town letterhead, that she crossed the line," resident Polly Bowser told CNN. "There is an ordinance in our town that says that you do not use town letterhead for personal opinion, and that's exactly what she did."

*snicker*

I saw that on "The Daily Show," where one of them (I think the one related to Ellen Degeneres) was harpooning them big time! Aw man...I wish I had a video of that one!

HA! Who the hell () are they going to blame their troubles on?!

They can't blame them on Satan, which by association gets rid of atheists, homosexuals, evolutionists, the ACLU, pro-choicers, etc.

I wouldn't doubt if one did a fly-over there the city streets would outline a portrait of Jesus.

oh great!

Now we're going to be peppered with Satan sightings from all over, now that he's looking for someplace else to live.

Maybe he'll move in with Elvis and work at the same Burger King.

Umm... I think I need Mayor Carolyn to come to my house and cast out Satan. He's sitting here drinking Fresca and watching Predator 2. Well, actually, he's not such a bad guy. On second thought, I'm glad she cast him out of their town. He deserves a better place to live than that. I think he's a better person than a lot of the fundamentalists who hate him so much.

The Devil you say?
From this mornings news
--------------------------------------

I N G L I S, Fla. — Maybe the Devil did it.

Someone has stolen four posts bearing proclamations banning Satan from this Florida town of 1,400 people.

Inglis Mayor Carolyn Risher attracted national and international attention when she banned the Prince of Darkness in November, and had four hollow posts erected with the proclamations inside at the town's four entrances.

But the four-foot posts vanished sometime last week.

"I just can't believe anyone would do this," Risher told The Associated Press. "They were put there with good intent and for the good of the town as well as to reclaim our town back to God."

Banning Satan was not universally popular in this central Florida town

One resident went to the American Civil Liberties Union to complain over the separation between church and state. The Town Commission passed a resolution saying the mayor was only speaking for herself, even though the resolution was on town stationery, signed by the town clerk and stamped with the officials seal.

Among other things, the proclamation said: "We exercise our authority over the devil in Jesus' name. By that authority, and through His Blessed Name, we command all satanic and demonic forces to cease their activities and depart the town of Inglis."

Apparently, someone didn't get the message.

Inglis says she plans to replace the posts with new ones twice the height that will be anchored in concrete. She also plans to put up a giant cross.

"This time [they] are going to be in the ground nice and firm," she said

Somebody stole the signs? I hadn't heard about that.

I think it's kinda neat. A relitivly harmless idiotcy that gives every one either a chuckle or an excuse to speak in tongues and roll on the church floor. The sign thieves should be punished to the fullest extent: They must attend a service at the Church of the Dessicated Cockroach and buy a round for the house.

Did anyone mention to her that Devil advocates should get equal rights? So right next to the giant concrete markers banning him there can be a welcome sign

Dream on. There's no way the town will get out of footing the bill. Fundies just don't work that way. Observe: We pick up the tab for the idiot Ashcroft's titty curtains at the Justice Dept.

Might just as well get what laughs we can out of it.

If she replaces the posts, they will become the target of every high school / college / bar stool prankster in the Great State of Florida. They'll probably find their way to ebay or be traded in school locker room deals. If they can't be moved, my money is on a joyrider taking them out in a stolen Ford Expedition.

Oh, but pipe bombs and blasting caps are so, so....conventional. How about perching one of those inflatable dolls on top of the post so that it is sticking up her, uhhh, air valve.

We don' need no steenkin' blastin' caps!

Easy to rig one, fuse or electric, without the hassle of getting detonators.

I like the blow-up doll idea better. Ridicule is SO much more effective than destruction. And more fun, too.

Hey, how 'bout displaying pentagrams all over town? Or get a really good graffiti artist to 666 the town hall walls as well as the signs. Some of those guys would do it for free.

(chuckle)
