CM, if you're ever in the area again, contact us beforehand. I'll stand you a beer at the Rimrock Tavern.
You liked the badlands huh? You ought to be there sometime for a thunderstorm at night. I don't mean a wimpo one, I mean where it sounds like new mountain ranges are being born and you can damn near read because there's so much lightning. Awesome!

Lisa likes to bragg about that sort of stuff. But she does have a point, it is truly quite nice.

I loved it there! Being the fossil hound that I am...course I know the laws on that.
Camped around Interior...big storm, nice/dry tent. Shot about 9 rolls of film at the Badlands alone.
Found back vertebrae/ribs protrusion of a Oreodont, a sheep-sized creature with canines! 30,00k years old or so. Also found
parts of a Bacculite (sp)and Ammonites.
Drove my new Wrangler up there from Tejas in June of '99. Heavy rains before turn everything brilliant! Took the hardtop off of the jeep for 2-3 days at Badlands...drove all over.
Wish I was there again right now. (and get my free glass of ice water!)

Think the hills are the true sentinels of the plains. I had met friends there and we wined and dined at the lodge. Then down to Hot Springs for the Mammoth site. I was living near Sioux Falls when the news of it's discovery came out. Finally got to see them. Spectacular!
After satiing our palettes, we drove up to Sylvan lake. A tremedous thunderstorm blew up back down to the Game Lodge.
From there, I left to visit family back in SFalls, then back to Texas.

Must had been Piper's tough talk about pickles and onions! Drove everyone off. ;-)
I'm still laughing about that one!

Yepper, to the offer Lisa, thanks. At that lodge, I remember having stuffed trout with new potatoes and brocolli with most unusual beer from Deadwood. The dark ale micro-brewed beer bottle was at least twice the size as a regular longneck bottle. Wished I had bought a case of it.
Back in the early 80's I camped around Hill City area for about a week. Wild raspberrys
were everywhere at that time.

I dunno if Lisa told you or not Megan, but I have a lot of cousins and other relation all over that area. Rapid City, Hot Springs, Spearfish. I haven't been up there for a while but I loved the badlands and the Black Hills.

I know mostly the Hot Springs area, I don't think i've been up there since I was around your age though. Had an uncle that lived in Rapid till he passed away about five years ago. I have a cousin (that has two sets of twins ACK) who lives north of you all a bit I think, near some Indian Reservation. Also have some cousins in spearfish and deadwood.

Hey Lisa, no need to tell me about storms, I live in Kansas, remember? lol. We just had a hell of a one move through earlier. Tornado in the county just to the south of me. It was so bad lighting wise, i wimped out and turned off the 'puter, lol.
I would like to see such a storm in the badlands though, that would be awesome.
