Actually, the first time I read it, I didn't read it either. I'm scanning documents and re-imaging a workstation, so while I'm waiting for little gray bars become little blue bars, out of boredom I re-read it and happened to notice this.

I was debating whether "Farty" is more or less childish than my "Turdy". But at least I admit that I'm being childish, and not making excuses for it.

Please keep this thread civil and unchildish. There is a chance that Dr. Michael Shermer shows up, and if he does, I'd like to see us all on our best behaviour. We've managed to keep insults at a minimum for 15 pages (though I've slipped a few times myself), and I hope we could keep it for some more.

STAFF EYES ONLY ----- STAFF EYES ONLY

STATE MENTAL HEALTH BOARD

Memo from Dr. B. Rude regarding the Bellvue Psychiatric Facility

The evaluation of the Bellvue psychiatric center was leaked, and it found it's way onto the internet where it was picked up by the staff and patients at the center. We can expect some untoward consequences of this unfortunate breach of confidentiality.

The effects of the leaked report can be seen at all levels in the center. The director, the Dowager Dame Killjoy has taken solace in the bottle, but this does not represent a deviation from the norm and is not of concern.

However, the chief psychiatrist, Dr. (out of courtesy) Whackamole has apparently reacted badly to the disclosure of his phony credentials has hasn't been seen at the center for the last three days. An all points bulletin has been issued by the local police and it is hoped that he is found before he harms himself or others.

Moreover, without Whackamole's day to day supervision, the other patients have retreated into an collective and nonreactive stupor. Some might view this as progress, but it warrants careful attention as given their previous conditions, full catatonia cannot be too far away.

Let me stress once again the need for full confidentiality with all department communications, and any failures in this regard by Board staff will be punished severely.

The recommendation is for full 24/7 monitoring of the Bellvue facility, and immediate intervention in observed cases of erratic or unexplained behaviors.

B. Rude
Inspector, State Board of Mental Health

Still evading questions, huh? All you have are insults, right? Speaking only for myself, I'm sick of this guy's unwillingness to respond to valid questions. That he's a degenerate Nazi apologist only makes it worse.

So, Rudolfo, how about answering my questions?

And if you have already answered them, feel free to direct me to the place where you did so. You may also copy and paste the response. But as far as I can tell, you haven't answered them.

Hey, the Nazis were just holding them for safekeeping. Plus there was a hellacious epidemic of athlete's foot going around, so the Nazis were only keeping the shoes for the health of the Jews, while they (the Jews) were vacationing at Treblinka and Auschwitz.

Another Nazi scumbag makes the world a sligthtly better place:

Paul Schaefer, a former Nazi corporal and founder of a mysterious German enclave in southern Chile, died Saturday in a prison hospital where he was serving 20 years for sexually abusing children, prison officials said.

Schaefer, 88, died just after 7:00 am (1100 GMT) amid worsening health due to heart disease, according to local media.

Schaefer was taken to hospital in July last year with heart problems and was given respiratory assistance.

He had been sentenced in May 2006 to 20 years in jail for abusing and torturing children and other settlers at the armed Colonia Dignidad enclave.

Schaefer set up the large, self-sufficient German colony in an isolated region south of Santiago in 1961 after fleeing Germany to escape child abuse charges.

Rudolfo, you really should link these things so that the context can be seen. Otherwise one might accuse you of quote-mining.

"Another of the qualities of science is that it teaches the value of rational thought as well as the importance of freedom of thought; the positive results that come from doubting that the lessons are all true. You must here distinguish--especially in teaching--the science from the forms or procedures that are sometimes used in developing science. It is easy to say, "We write, experiment, and observe, and do this or that." You can copy that form exactly. But great religions are dissipated by following form without remembering the direct content of the teaching of the great leaders. In the same way, it is possible to follow form and call it science, but that is pseudo-science. In this way, we all suffer from the kind of tyranny we have today in the many institutions that have come under the influence of pseudoscientific advisers.

We have many studies in teaching, for example, in which people make observations, make lists, do statistics, and so on, but these do not thereby become established science, established knowledge. They are merely an imitative form of science analogous to the South Sea Islanders' airfields--radio towers, etc., made out of wood. The islanders expect a great airplane to arrive. They even build wooden airplanes of the same shape as they see in the foreigners' airfields around them, but strangely enough, their wood planes do not fly. The result of this pseudoscientific imitation is to produce experts, which many of you are. [But] you teachers, who are really teaching children at the bottom of the heap, can maybe doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts."

Even better ...... it highlights something I've been thinking lately, I don't think I've written it in this thread but I might have .... that is ...

we all respect the hard sciences because we see the incredible and overwhelming results ... and we respect 'hard' scientists for this very reason. However, in the university now there are 'soft' sciences like social science, politics, psychology, who as Feynman describes go though the formalisms of science, but they're not really doing science ..... however we generally, without thinking, transfer the respect we have for the hard scientists, the physicists, engineers, mathematicians, etc., to the 'soft' scientists, the social scientists, the political scientists, the psychologists .... etc. It ain't warranted. These people, intelligent as they are, are not scientists and their results, no matter how many times confirmed and accepted as the 'consensus', are are often just total nonsense. Think about 'economists' for example ..... good grief, what a bunch of complete charlatans.

Feynman was pretty awesome. He mentions cargo cults in that speech, and eight years later gave another speech at CalTech which is titled, "Cargo Cult Science," which includes Rudolfo's biggest failure:
...the idea is to try to give all of the information to help others to judge the value of your contribution; not just the information that leads to judgment in one particular direction or another.
Rudolfo's repeated attempts to equate only having 1% of the evidence for the Holocaust with having no evidence is a prime example of him not just failing to provide all of the information, but actively trying to hide all of the information, so that only one particular judgment is deemed "reasonable."

The "Cargo Cult Science" speech also includes one of the most-famous Feynman quotes about science:
The first principle is that you must not fool yourself - and you are the easiest person to fool.
Rudolfo embraces the opposite ideal.
