Piper is back at it, with some naive types apparently still trying to argue with him. Why? His every contention has been disproven multiple times, he is just trying to prove that he is impervious to logic, he can come out on top. It is literally a contest of stupidity, he will win hands down. On the other hand, he didn't respond at all when Brett the Broccoli, Nick, Zandermann, and I mocked his pompous nonsense on this string, despite a direct challenge to do so: http://www.badastronomy.com/wwwboard/messages/11436.html Harlan Ellison once said of fundamentalists, "ridicule is the only way to deal with these people." It is important to address their claims rationally first, but don't let it continue when they start their baboon/jackass power game, it is playing into their hands.

He's not worth arguing with. I'm asking him questions, but I don't expect to see any real answers.

Poor Piper. True believers are to be pitied more than condemned. Piper has missed everything of interest and lives his/her life on an intellectual/emotional desert (much like the one the Apollo Program Hoaxers would believe to be the site for the filming of the entire Apollo Program). However, on such sets, there are always the amenities, so he/she would not perish, except from boredom.
He/she ought to get on with his/her life. There must be other things to challenge as being hoaxes. Wasting all of this time on a no-brainer must be really difficult for him/her to endure.
We all ought to send Piper *get well* cards (if there are any psychiatric *get well* cards in existence).

Desert? No. Try a damn island.
I was over there about an hour ago, and I couldn't believe this. JW posts against Pipe-up-his-butt. No response, but it was still funny to read that HB's were going against each other. I think.
Heck, even when asked perfectly good questions, like when Dog_Ed tried to find what Pipe-up-his-butt knew, Pipe-up-his-butt kept attacking him. Pipe-up-his-butt is just plain sick. Then again, we already knew that.
The way I see it, christians are godless too...they just don't know it yet. |

Here it is, Rifteroo, in all its glory (in response to a question from Conrad regarding what HBers did for kicks before Apollo) ===>http://www.badastronomy.com/wwwboard/messages/11288.html

Boy, Rubysue called it spot on. Piper is back and his minianomilies site reference JPG compression artifacts. Boy, Rubysue, when you're right, you're right.

I have a question about satellies/space junk I'd like to post over at BA. Hope I get a serious response, not troll-speak. There's quite an infestation over there right now. Piper et al can be amusing in small doses, but I'm getting really tired of the mess. Lisa

I'm sorry, I'm the one that was playing with him this weekend...
I keep responding to him... :(
Now he's trying to use ALSJ video clips to prove I'm wrong and he's right. It is sooo pathetic.

Hey Rift, Could you please re-post your "rover in front of the rock/igloo" picture? Ed's looking over my shoulder and wants to know what the hell we're talking about. Lisa

Surely....
The first time Piper posted this I almost asked "Where? behind the rover and that boulder?" :)
I bet Ed's reaction will be the same :)
and here's the link to the relevant transcript- http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/alsj/a16/a16.house_rock.html
And the famous 'locator' video that shows Duke taking the damn thing. http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/alsj/a16/a16v.1673603.ram
I really do need a website so I can stop cutting and pasting these long damn file names :)

Part of the Piper-mess on the BA board is my fault, too--I started 2 or 3 threads directed at him/her. I started out wanting to know how educated Piper is, but by the end I was just trying to get him to respond on any topic other than the Apollo pics, even the weather. He wouldn't do it. Personally, I don't hate or despise P so much as pity the poor devil. His viewport on the Universe is so small and smudged, and he has isolated himself so completely behind it...a truly miserable existence, I would think. I've sworn off responding to his threads.

I think that's the most reasonable idea, Dog_Ed...He probably won't just go away, but chances are that he will pipe down a bit.

quote: I've sworn off responding to his threads.
This is an idea that is way overdue and should be followed by everyone! I ignored this pyscho for weeks by posting other topics (which were usually ignored by everyone), trying a little humor (which was misunderstood by many) or just laying low until the Piper full moon cycle was over. I boiled over one day and responded back with a direct challenge, as many of you know, and quickly realized that I was shortening my life with rage trying to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man. I finally quit posting on the BABB primarily because I'm so sick of that nasty libelous lunatic and his "micro-structure" hoax battiness, but what frustrated me even more than the delusions of Piper is how often folks "take the bait" and enable his insanity, resulting in endless threads that quickly move any interesting topics off the bottom of the board. Has anyone noticed how many former BABB regulars are no longer posting very much, like Karl and Harold the Barrel and Johnno (and many more)? Karl is a veritable fountain of knowledge about space, but a single recent posting by him says it all:
http://www.badastronomy.com/wwwboard/messages/11509.html
The best way to get rid of Piper permanently is to absolutely refuse to respond, reason, challenge, smirk, insult, argue or even acknowledge his existence. His proper place in this world is in a padded solitary cell under heavy sedation, but he's giddily showcasing himself (and leading fence-sitting lurkers to his stupid website) by being a prominent thorn in everyone's side on what used to be a very interesting board (and the more you pay attention, the more Piper will respond; it's like prodding a cobra with a stick).
For those who seem gender-confused about Piper, I distinctly recall him several weeks ago responding to a challenging post [from someone who accused him of being a 12-year-old punk on speed stealing time on the library computer] stating that he is a middle-aged man who knows more about life than any of the pathetic NASA bootlickers who challenge his wisdom. Of course, this could be another delusion, but I think it may be true (re: Piltdown's hoaxer authoritarianism theory).
Hurry up, Phil, and update the board software. As soon as Piper can have his own private 7th circle of hell folder, the rest of us can leave the arguments to those who really enjoy baiting and insulting a deranged idiot.
Oh, and by the way, I feel absolutely no pity for Piper. He's just thrilled with the attention that you give him (and his stupid website). It's time to stop enabling him and enforce a code of silence.

The problem, rubysue, is enforcing a code of silence. There are many of us who have promised to refuse to respond, but only BA can do the enforcing for *everyone*.
And I agree with his reasons for allowing posters who abide by his rules. I just wish that he could get by with some selective pruning.

I feel guilty too, I promised myself never to responded to him and I fell off the wagon this weekend. :(
I would pledge never to respond to him again, but the idiot gets my dander up so much I'm not sure I can promise that :(
I do think his bunkum needs to be debunked, but directly confronting him is NOT the way to do it.
I did a damn good job of ignoring the fool till saturday :(
