Sorry if I spilt water on it. Throw him a tastier hook, Bozola. Like to see that sort of clap-trap just blow right up in their faces. Been some memoriable moments over at BA with seeing the hoaxters fall one by one; but yet some STILL come back for more. Gluttons for punishishment.
It's like the Loc Ness Monster whooie, and all the rest. All the flurry of tabloided-heady mysticism surrounding the topic. People getting excited WITHOUT applying a skeptical eye to it all, - not unlike a child's imagination in a darken room.
If by some _incredible_ freak of nature/accident a "Lizzie" is captured, it would be in SPITE of all the clap-trap.
W-H-E-R-E-'S T-H-E E-V-I-D-E-N-C-E? Should make a rubber stamp and *!Stamp'em!* on the forehead with it next time.
Several years ago, Nova on PBS TV ran a program looking at the "Bermuda Triangle" and all of the claims made from the myriad of books, film shorts on the subject. Needless to say, by the end of the hour program, using just simple investigative/science techniques, Nova just blew it all right out of the water. Great program that. Maybe Michael Shermer's "Exploring the Unknown" will skewer this contrail crap someday.

LMAO After staying up alnight, watching the Perseids and listening to the Discovery mission chatter, uh, thought it was suppose to dock in tha AM.., was determined to see the link up. Wish peoples would just use military time, would be much easier fer us boneheads. It's happening, right now! Anyways, surf'd over to BABB, and caught a post by "looney," (read Nonny), and used a line me cop'd from here, Bozola maybe, "DrainBamage." Posted a spitball and let it go, *L*, felt great! Me blood pressure is steady, yet, feel as though the forces of stupidty have been answered and branded... And gets to share, over here, this is the solution! *LOL* Life is good, "Contact!"

And how were the Perseids this year, Nubi? We've been socked in with clouds here...can't see a blasted thing. Tried last night while babysitting my nephew, but nada.

Well, have alot of light to contend with here, and in the predawn hours, had a few puffs form, Zandermann, butt all in all, pretty good me thought. From me balcony, have a good chunk of sky to the ESE in veiw, but was only managing about 12phr. Heard most were getting 50phr, full sky. The Champ, here, was a brillant orange flasher of 30 degrees arc. The show Venus and Jupiter with ol' Saturn, near in line, put on, was worth the ticket. Don't give up hope, Zanman, better luck tonight.

I saw this quote and the Marvin Avatar and thought I posted it when I was half-asleep, lol.
It's beyond stuuuuuuupid. I was first exposed to it on a Y2K board, the doomers were all aghast about it. I was told that contrails didn't exist 20, 25 years ago, lol.
It's one of the few fringe lunatic theories that is soooo stuuuupid, in my opinion, I can't even get excited about debunking it and just dismiss it out of hand.

Tell 'em to watch the old westerns from the 50's up close. Can see a contrail from time to time! For that fact, watch the original Memphis Belle or WWII pics of the same, - high altitude bomb run contrails. My Uncle was a tail-gunner on a B-17. Said their own contrails were a deadly give away to German 88s anti-aircraft fire.
Could start a new folder in the Humor forum wondering what the lunatic fringe will dream up next, like "Crespuscular rays actually solar rayguns focused by low orbit Dark Force Space Satellites."

Not only is this a very good point that shows they are as old as high altitude flight, but I remember LOOKING at contrails 20-25 years ago as a kid (Hell, as long ago as 30-35 years as a kid). There are not anymore numerous now then I recall as a kid...
How do these Morons come up with this stuff? BTW Phil just axed the chemtrails thread. How we got onto it, i'll never know...

Anyone care to refute the claim by (IMO crackpot) conspiracy theorists on chemtrails being spread over the world to control us? I'm running out of effective arguments here. =) ==========================================================
Oh, I'll still see a lot of contrails, here in Texas. Quite numerous along flight corridors. Seems like always when there's a beautiful sunset to photograph! Atmospheric conditions change and can affect them along with altitudes. I'm no pilot but would imagine there's a height where the temps just plummet. Uncle would talk of their bomb runs at around 25,000 feet. Could be -40f temperatures. Major contrails/condensation from engine exhaust heat.
No doubt an aircraft can disperse various agents from the air. And no doubt governments have held the public as guinea pigs on whatever. This chem-trail-itis and its screwy attention it's getting is not too unlike the Loc Ness Monster, Bermuda Triangle, Crop Circles, Von Dinkhead's Ancient Astronauts, on and on. What's the common thread here?
Junk Science. People who are gullible to lap it up perpetuate it,- maintains a market for it. A lot of (excuse the bad word here Rift) Hoaglands running rampant, selling their snake oil.
Think a lot of these quacks could make a living dreaming up headline grabbers for the National Enquirer.
Speaking of Hoagland, he was on Shermer's "Exploring the Unknown" last Friday eve, with his claims of ancient ruins discovered in Florida are directly tied to Stonehenge and that they forecast doom and destruction for us in modern society, or something like that. He was put in his place at the end of the segment. Just another Erich von Dinkhead.

Hey Randy or Rift-
When is this Exploring the Unknown show on Friday nights? If it's a convenient time, I'll tune in for a laugh or two.
Again, my question: How do people start to believe in cults? Seems a bit hard, IMO.
The way I see it, christians are godless too...they just don't know it yet. |

Here in the central time zone it's 9pm...right after the dumb Fox show of "Scariest Places on Earth". But it's hit or miss. I just now noticed it not on next Friday, at least here. The schedule shows in its place none other than the 700 Club! Ha!
Just checking the Fox fall line up, looks like Shermer's show was dropped. His E-Skeptic mailer may talk about it. I'll forward it to you if it does.
Always like to see any skeptic programs on the tube. Like Arthur C. Clarke's "Mysterious Universe". More, the merrier. There's a lot of crap-o-la out there in the world, and a lot of dummies lining up for seconds, thirds,.... These programs help to debunk these so-called "mysterious" topics. At the end of discussions, the only thing mysterious is people's gullibilities to believe in them the first place.
The BA, Mr. Plait, has excellent coverage on bad astronomy. We need all the of us out there in the fore-front to fight against the tsunami of all the other absurdities. It's trench warfare. Education is our weapon. Get you Pith helmet and pocket protector ready for battle!

Alas, me too. Tell yas what, thou, think it was in the seventies, they came up with a method to supress the contrails. It was a big deal at the time, me remembers, the method, dunno nor really care, some additive me would guess. Perhaps the power of sugestion, a couple of years ago, there did seem to start being alot more of them. Of course there is a heck of alot more flights as well, but was tink'n that maybe the Air Farce had stopped using "it" for some cost saving reason, if they ever did on regular training flights. Do me tinks the contrails equals chemtrails, of course not. Just a thought...

It's on 9 PM here in central time on Fox Family. Great Show very balanced. They absolutely skewered some "ghosts hunters" last time. Told them about a murder but not how it was commited. They totatly got it wrong. It was funny watching them say "are you sure, I think you should look into it, I think she was pushed from the balcolny (She died of self inflicted gunshot wounds far away from the balcolny, lol)
It's been on a while, but I just discovered it a month or two ago from chit chat on the BABB. Shermer's a hoot.
Don't ask me about cults, but I think they are fairly easy to fall into/form myself. Look at the Elvis Cult. I remember reading a Sci Fi book sat in the future and they had a "Church of Elvis". Might sound funny, but I think such a thing will evolve :)

To me, it would seem that it would take alot of suspension of disbelief to really get into cults and the like. Maybe it's just me.
