BA-
I've seen on a couple of threads that you were able to just delete either Spoq's posts or someone elses and leave the rest of the thread. Thought you could only delete the thread? Or are you getting better at using the software?

I posted an anti-geocentrism essay on the site, near the top, after Mifletz's post. I'd appreciate it if anyone can spot a flaw in my argument. I am pretty sure I am correct, however. I guess I'm in a take-no-shit-anymore mood. Who's next?
There's an episode from the original Star Trek where a crewmember goes insane because he looked into the face of an alien (appropriately named a "Medusan,") who...well...drives humans insane if they look at him. He runs about the ship babbling "They suffocate in our dreams!!!"
I've always thought that statement really sums up Looney-tunes concepts. I've been tempted to reply to Spoq and Mifletz at times with: "They suffocate in our dreams!!!" (But then again, they might believe me!)

Lol! Welcome to tonight's episode of that favorite psychology game NAME THAT DEFENSE MECHANISM!
(I don't want folks to think I'm "obsessed" with JW, it's just that he's the one that gets me riled enough to have to run over here I generally can just dismiss the Spoqs and Pipers without getting involved.
In a post on BABB from JW to Rosen:
"Why do you insist on always being rude? You seem never able to discuss science without either having everything your way or insulting someone who disagrees with you. Every time you don't understand something, you get rude. What's your problem?"

Hook, I agree about JW. I originally started coming here when the BABB was down. Now, in addition to coming here to read and participate in discussions, I sometimes come here instead of replying to JW's latest inanity.
Just for today, I will not reply to JW.

I, myself, find it very difficult to get riled over anybody's post. People are people. Some have better self control than others. Some lack objectivity and fly off the handle over nothing.
I am not here speaking of anybody's post in particular. I am speaking of a *generic* stupid post that anybody can come up with now and then (including me, myself). It is nice that we can delete our own silly mistakes here...

You are quite correct and gracious, as always.
The thing that gets me in the case of you-know-who is that these are not "stupid" posts. He is intellegent, can be eloquent and has put an awful lot of thought into some of his ideas. The trouble is, he really doesn't understand scientific method. Or, as Whiley put it just before all those SR threads disappeared off the bottom: "How you get an answer is sometimes as important as the answer itself."
By the way, I can't just ignore his posts because I end up learning things from the replies.
Oh well. So it goes.

Ummm, would that be "What is projection?", Alex?
JW's middle name is projection. I've actually not clicked on any of his posts for a long time.
I must have a lower tolerance for stupidity lately, I can't believe we got TWO "I don't see what's wrong with it" posts on the star naming thread. Taking money from gullable people is "epitome of the American entrepenuerial spirit"??? jezzus
I wanted to post a really nasty response to this, but I resisted the urge...
"Goddammit! The world is just filling up with more and more idiots! And the computer is giving them access to the world! They're spreading their stupidity! At least they were contained before--now they're on the loose everywhere!"? |

If tragedy was visited upon their own doorstep, and someone came along to attempt to vacuum their wallets, they'd probably feel differently. Lisa

A bitter irony: We know that the Taliban is apparently the only government in the world that officially endorses the moon hoax claim. Back in January, I opened my first SFN message about the moon hoax-hoax with "THIS IS WAR!!!" I never imagined that this extravagant metaphor would become literal fact. I am not being facetious, I think Taliban barbarism and moon hoax foolishness are two aspects of the same problem; or, if you will, two faces of the same enemy, one murderous, one silly. The HBs haven't killed anyone, but they may yet find their own counterpart to Tim McVeigh. All the ingredients are there: a monstrous conspiracy, easy targets, and a wealth of commercial propaganda for motivation. Remember when Piper said that he would die for his cause? He is a charlatan, a frustrated middle-age loser seeking the illusion of power; but some other true believer may yet take it as seriously as Piper pretends. I'm a little surprised that it hasn't already happened.

Well, the Taliban hates Americans. Americans went to the moon. Put two & two together. Come on, BA, even you can do that.

Regarding Spoq...
I always thought it was a shame he was a troll....he picked such a cool nickname...

Funny, after emailing JW a few times I no longer feel any need to read his posts. Spoq too. Anyway, this link has probably been posted a hundred times but here it is again: http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/ce/2/, to wit E. T. Babinski's "Cretinism or Evilution" #2, a Geocentrism issue. Great critical review of "Geocentricity" by Bouw.
