A bitter irony: We know that the Taliban is apparently the only government in the world that officially endorses the moon hoax claim.
Someone correct me if they have heard otherwise, but I believe Cuba also officially denies the moon landings happened and teach that belief in their school system.
I will find a cite for that shortly, just woke up :(
http://www.moonconspiracy.com/x-odd.html Within minutes of man's first step on the moon, China was already publicly calling the entire Apollo program a hoax. In Cuba, another communist country like China, all schoolchildren are taught that the American moon landings were faked.
Note: the above site seems to be an HB.
I know I read this somewhere else. Need more coffee. If anyone has counter-cite please comment.

Just read the 'follow the rules' thread. Wow.
"I don't take everything personally!" And then the rest of the response is all skewed to pertain to him.
Hell, at least it was amusing to make fun of Pip. JW is almost deserving of pity.
Any shrink types here? Narcissistic PD maybe?

The writer also claims to be breathing air with only 10% oxygen. Could explain much of the site.
Seems like Mifletz is peddling God on the board. He also calls me a blasphemer. I guess I'll survive.

BA and JW go at it! (Well actually, BA lays down the law and JW attacks.) Since JW mentioned my earlier post about an article in Sky & Telescope, I've got to say something. I thought my "Sorting Out Relativity" post, (more of a link to another website actually,) would not draw fire. I kept it simply informative. Yes, I did think about JW as I wrote it, but here's the point: if his beliefs were just as goofy, only he wasn't so weird, I think he would have enjoyed exploring the SR info posted. He claims he's being attacked (while doing the very thing he accuses others of,) and I really bit my tongue not to answer that after all the vicious things he called me on the internet for merely wanting to explain and/or understand SR better, or because he didn't like what some writer wrote in an article I linked to.
Anyway, with all that's happening in the world these days, it's really nothing to argue about. SR will be just fine. Hope for the best. Tim Thopmson's followup was helpful too.

It's Tough to Be God These Days:
Mohamed Atta said God forced him to kill; President Bush said God will punish Atta for killing. Ariel Sharon said God's on Israel's side; Yasir Arafat said God didn't force Atta to kill but nevertheless is on Palestinians' side. Jerry Falwell said God's on America's side and allowed Atta to kill only because of our gays and feminists.
The way I see it, christians are godless too...they just don't know it yet. |

WHAT?! Do you have a citation for this?
***** The Bad Astronomer
James Oberg has collected some anecdotes about this, as described in James Randi's July 20 column. http://www.randi.org/jr/07-20-01.html The great Randi also says some very nice things about you, BA, and the BA site. A statement of "kafir" from the Taliban is a binding (indeed, lethal) proscription and therefore an official statement of policy. In theory, these people could kill us for claiming that Apollo was real. They probably have other concerns just now, so spaceflight heathens are safe for the moment. Chinese spaceflight sites include many references to Apollo. I will find some links later today. There is no way to establish what they said in 1969, but consider the source. As for Cuba, I don't know whether this is an official position or simply an occasional excess of zeal by some servants of the regime. I remember an episode back in the 80s, a report that a Cuban teacher in Nicaragua had told her students that Apollo was a "Hollywood production." A member of Congress heard about it and invited the children to Cape Canaveral to see a Shuttle launch. I have written to James Oberg for clarification on this. http://www.jamesoberg.com

And Mr. Oberg wasted no time in responding:
quote: I have received two emails from Cuban-Americans who confirmed to me that they were told this by teachers when they were in grade school in Cuba. I haven't seen any printed material, official texts or teaching guides for Cuban teachers, nor would i expect to. However, the odds that a Cuban teacher would inject personal opinions into any castroite classroom is remote.
So, the Taliban have at least one ally among the governments of the world. The HBs are in very bad company indeed.

Yeah, he emailed me a bit in advance and told me he was going to write something. That was pretty cool. I followed this up by asking him to write a "back cover blurb" for my book, and he agreed! So I'll have a quotation from him on my book.

Hmmmm, no, will a Research Psychologist do? I'm not Narcissistic, but I'm sure I have plenty of other neuroses and character disorders.
Actually, ever since JW found out I was a "psychologist," he has accused me of "psychoanalyzing" him. Sorry, no training in Clinical.
Try Kaptain K, I've gotten the impression he has Psychiatrists in the family. This may be just an urban legend formed in my mind for some reason.

What shall we ever do without them? And piper is probably too busy analyizing CNN screenshots with a magnifing glass for tiny space ships at the WTC to worry about us...
I guess will have to talk about *gasp* astronomy...

... and yet, AND YET, they BOTH replied to THAT VERY POST.
AIEIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEIEIEIEIIEEIEIEIEEEEEEEE!
Sometimes, when I think that maybe, just maybe, I am being too hard on someone, they come up and poke me in the eye. Amazing.
That's it. My irony gland is squeezed dry.

Ahh, but c'mon, Phil, weren't you just a little tempted to let JW and Spoq battle it out for who was better than who? ROFLMAO. Just reading the subject lines on the already deleted posts sent me into fits.
