My mother has been in the hospital, and I've been busy. Last week she had surgery, and Friday she went into septic shock, and we thought we lost her. Damn that was scary. Anyway, she's doing better. But she hates hospitals and she's already tried to escape. They've put her in restraints, lol. We try to have somebody down there visiting with her most of the time so she won't do anything stupid...
Rift, sorry to hear about your mother, but glad she is doing better. Lol! Sounds like my Mom.
Things like that really do resort your priorites, don't they?

Hat Monster and James: Well speaking as a newbie to the BABB I think there's some pretty good stuff there--I loved the link to the Flat Earth parody, and here's one to another of the guy's jokes: http://www.cca.org/woc/felfat/. He's an artist and retrogeek. Check his homepage (there's a link on the FELFAT page)--pictures of obsolete mainframes he's using as a home system.
So, uh, what do you guys know about the relationship between experimental measurements of GR frame dragging, Mach's principle, and disproof of geocentricity? Nemmine, I'll post it on the BABB eventually.

Rift...my best wishes to you and Mom
All...in addition to the stuff that Dog_Ed mentions, there's a science fiction recommendation list going, as well as a critique of a Learning Channel program and the BA's review of the new Trek series. Plus a thread speculating about the Anazasi painting which is thought to portray the Crab supernova.

I actually saw Spoq try and post over on BABB this morning, about 11 AM CDT. I had read the post about 20 minutes after he had posted, so I wasn't surprised that it was gone when I went back this evening.

... which proves my point about him. I told him twice not to post on the BABB, and that I would delete his messages as soon as I saw them. Evidently he has limited powers of retention.
Did anyone see the huge spam on the board last night? Someone thought I was being too draconian in my deletions, and posted a dozen or so rather rude messages. I am constantly amazed at how people take everything personally, even after I show them posts by Kierein and others that stay up on the board.

I missed the Big Spam, I guess. If it's any consolation, roughly equivalent outbreaks of rudeness and cluelessness flare up on the Halfbakery forum every now and then, and the moderator--one person, like the BA--knocks the offender(s) into Never-Never Land. She's got an advantage, though, in that she wrote the software to allow wholesale deletions not only of posts but of user accounts as well.

Meg-A-Boo, Rift behaved himself during the last Hoaxland incursion, maining because he was busy. I didn't join in because I knew I'd get snotty. The place is yours (with the computer..and telescope) about the 10th. We need to get a filter for the scope. Tried to take a couple of pictures of the moon. On the first one, it wasn't really nighttime yet, so it came out really weird. A big splotch right about Tycho. The next night we tried when it was fully dark. Aha. Now the need for a filter. Half the picture was washed out because the moon was so bright. Hey, gives us something to play with when I get back! Lisa

Belated birthday wishes, Phil.
I see that this jackass Mifletz is continuing his geocentrism crusade at BABB. Geocentrism! I can't believe it. He might as well endorse the Spanish Inquisition (or has he done that, too? Never mind, that was Spoq). I can't think of a response that would not violate the BA's rules. I just can't be civil to someone who couches blood-drenched medievalist superstition in the language of modern science. At least piqer and the moon HB's are keeping a low profile. Considering his striking affinity for the Taliban (moon hoax, willing to die for beliefs, etc.), maybe piper's afraid of a B-52 strike on his server if he draws too much attention to himself.

Happy belated birthday, Phil! Did Spoq, Piper and JW send you a present? No??? Why those dirty dogs, after all that you have put up with on the BABB

This message originally said the BABB was down, but I deleted that original message. The board is back up. The problem was an out-of-control error loop which tied up all the disk space. It's been fixed, and the BABB is running again... for now. ;-)

I wonder if poster "DGavin" is really JW. (Trivia I know, but this is the BABB!)
Anyway, the reasons: Use of language and certain words, phrases are the same. Wants to slip in anti-SR BS while telling someone that the moon hoax believers are in the same category as people who "believe" matter can't travel at light speed. Calls people who find special relativity compelling or are just interested, "fanatics." No big deal I know, but very JW like.
BA's board is down yet again as he points out, but in its present state, what a wonderful "scrabbler" program it offers for the "Random Chaos Society" Message Board! Or the "Aleatory* Readers Association" Message Board! (Just kidding!)
