quote:
Editor, The Chronicle
It's time to stomp out atheists in America. The majority of Americans would
love to see atheists kicked out of America. If you don't believe in God,
then get out of this country.
The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc.,
which means you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic,
Methodist, etc.), but you must believe.
I don't recall freedom of religion meaning no religion. Our currency even
says, ''In God We Trust." So, to all the atheists in America: Get off of our
country.
People like Gail Pepin (The Chronicle, Oct. 11) have caused the ruin of this
great nation by taking prayer out of our schools and being able to practice
what can only be called evil. I don't care if she has never committed a
crime, she is the reason crime is rampant.
To The Chronicle, please do not give atheists a voice. You do more harm than
good.
Gloria ''Wendy" Ray, Aiken, S.C.

I'm so glad I live in a free country. You can believe in whatever gawd you want but you must believe in one? I'm begining to believe that Piltdown may be right in that soon atheists and others who are not christian will be ostracized and persecuted by this society. This kind of thinking is trully frightening.

Am I Crazy, or does this remind you of the Editorials that appeared in Egypt, a few Months ago, where the ONLY Question, regarding an Accused Homosexual, was whether he should be Stoned, With, or WITHOUT, Trial.

But, then again, a few months ago an Opinion appeared in the Boston Globe's Editorial Section, that asked if the Separation Between Church and State, had to be rethought. Also, a letter appeared in the Publication, Science News, that implied that the Fall of the Tower of Babel, was a LITERAL Event!

Its truly amazing!

A couple of god worshippers decides to murder a lot of people in the name of god, and the atheists are the problem.

Ok, I admit that we pagan sinners causes eclipses, but hey! Whats the harm in them?

No, not me. He seems to be doing a good job, though.

I'm not sure I could even attempt to counter that kind of insanity. I'm still too shocked to even respond now.

I liked this quote, from their forum on page 3 in the "Kick Atheists Out?" topic:

quote:
I look at it this way. If God is omniscient, he knows exactly what evidence is needed to convince me of his existence. If he is omnipotent, it is by definition within his power to provide such evidence. If he is omnibenevolent, he wants to provide such evidence, so that I can know of his existence, worship him and be assured of heaven. No such evidence has been provided. Therefore, either there is no God or it is his will that I not believe in him.

I hate to keep sounding like a prophet of doom, but I have never been as worried about this country's future as I am now. It is not so much the new and ever more stridently asserted power of the religious right, though that is bad enough. It is, rather, the complete breakdown of reasoning power that it represents.
A large number of people really believe, for instance, that prayer is banned in public schools, and that this somehow caused the terrorist attacks of September 11. These people are fed a steady diet of sound-bites and self-serving quicky explanations from the pulpit. They have been conditioned all their lives to respond to emotional, dramatic, and manipulative appeals in TV commercials, so naturally, they mistake the word of JimBob Campmeeting for the Word of God. The result is a gigantic network, centered on fundamentalist churches, that can literally lead people to reject the evidence of their own eyes. In this case, that means blaming atheism rather than religious fanaticism for the September 11 attacks.

Does anyone remember or have a link to this statement:

They came for group X, but I was not a member of group X so I did nothing.

They came for group Y, but I was not a member of group Y so I did nothing.

They came for group Z, but I was not a member of group Z so I did nothing.

Then they came for me, but there was no one left to defend me.

Kinda sounds like what is happening now.

Right now, it looks like we only have the federal courts, and that will be gone as soon as Bush/Ashcroft get to make a couple of Supreme Court appointments. The supposedly liberal advocates of multiculturalism and diversity will only side with us until the word comes down that "inclusiveness" and "cultural sensitivity" demand an end to attacks on religion, lest some cultic quack be as offended as the fundies are.

Ah, gotta love them good christian values, huh. I think I've figured out what's really bugging this twit. Sure our elected officials can give my tax money to churches. However, I cannot be compelled to go to church or believe nonsense. She can cry, whine, complain, bitch, jump up and down, throw things, and hold her breath if that makes her happy. But she'll never get around that one fact. You know, she'd probably be a happier person if she'd get off her high horse and stop worrying about other peoples faith (or lack thereof). I certainly don't give a rat's ass what she believes.

Well, I do, when she believes that my lack of religious faith qualifies me for expulsion from the land of my birth. In fact, I care a great deal about that particular belief of hers. The problem comes when she acts on her beliefs in ways that trample on my rights.

I'll bet there are a lot of other things about me she'd disapprove of, too...
